Student Branch: Nirma University
Professor Balkrushna Shah has served as the advisor for the Nirma University Student Branch since 2016. The student branch has successfully organized a number of events and activities as well as taking part in chapter and region activities.

Earlier this year, the student branch successfully organized a number of student industrial visits.The details of some of the activities organized for the Nirma University Student Branch are listed below:

Industrial Visit to GIFT City

A Visit to GIFT City

January 2018: 45 students visited the GIFT City cooling plant and learned about how the district cooling system works. The students also learned about thermal energy storage and were shown how controlling of the cooling is done throughout the city.

Expert Lecture on "Basics of Clean Room"

February 2018: 60 students attended a lecture on "Basics of Clean Room" by Mr. Vijay Panchal from the Western India Chapter.

Visit to Institute of Management Central Cooling Plant

March 2018: 30 students visited Institute of Management Central Cooling Plant to learn about water chillers system and air circulation.

Industrial Visit to Ice Make

April 2018: 22 students participated in an Industrial visit to Ice Make Industry. During the visit, students learned about manufacturing cold rooms, ice cream freezer, chiller, BMC(Bulk Milk Cooler), Refrigerated Van etc.

Recruitment and Internships

July 2017 – June 2018: Due to Professor Shah’s untiring efforts 68 new student members joined ASHRAE in 2017-18. Student branch members also secured summer internships and recent graduates were placed in jobs in the HVAC&R industry.

Undergraduate Program Equipment Grant

Nirma University will receive a grant of $3350 for the project titled “Development of Split AC Test Rig Working on Inverter technology and charged with Environment Friendly Refrigerant R-32 – as a Laboratory Equipment for Engineering Students”.
