More information
JETS is a national organization dedicated to educating our nation’s young people about and preparing them for engineering and technology careers. Every year, JETS impacts a diverse group of 40,000 high school students with programs that illustrate engineering in the real-world. Through a unique three-pronged approach-Explore, Assess, and Experience—JETS academic competition and education resources excited students about careers in engineering and technology by showing them the critical role engineers play in the world around us. ASHRAE believes in the JETS mission and supports programming. In 2008, ASHRAE is sponsoring an award for "Best Display" part of JETS National Engineering Design Challenge (NEDC). (NEDC) is a competition educating young people about careers in engineering, raising social awareness, and inspiring a spirit of engagement and a willingness to help others. NEDC helps high school students learn first-hand how engineering can make a positive difference in someone's life. NEDC is a team competition in which students use their creativity…problem solving ... math ... science ... research ... writing ... presentation and drafting/design skills to create a real-life assistive technology (AT) device to help individuals with disabilities succeed in the workplace and achieve independence in their lives. JETS also has a vested interest in promoting the HVAC&R industry; another reason ASHRAE stays connected. http://www.jets.org/explore/what/hvacr.cfm. Check out the article highlighting HVAC&R from the Pre-Engineering Times, JETS enewsletter highlighting different disciplines of engineering and features classroom activities, extreme engineer interviews, program updates, and topics relevant to current industries. http://www.jets.org/newsletter/1105/ See below for the project that the JETS program TEAMS has completed related to HVAC&R. TEAMS is national academic competition challenging students to apply math and science to solve real-world engineering scenarios. Project: ASHRAE and ice cream? Find out how we keep it cold so you can beat the heat. Experience the fun of refrigeration engineering with this TEAMS challenge from JETS. Answer to project: "Stay Connected"Sign-up for JETS free e-newsletter, the Pre-Engineering Times! Distributed monthly, this popular publication provided readers with an inside look into the different types of engineering careers through extreme engineer interviews, classroom activities and resources, and information about JETS competition and programs. |
