New Faces of College Engineering

Untitled Document

Congratulations to Ibrahim Adewale Ogundeko, ASHRAE’s first New Face of Engineering: College Edition!

Thank you to everyone who applied to be 2012 ASHRAE’s college New Face of Engineering! We had a great inaugural year, with an outstanding number of deserving young men
and woman applying to the program. You can see all the applicants here.

2012 New Face of Engineering: College Edition

Ibrahim Adewale Ogundeko
Education: third year, mechanical engineering, University of Lagos, Akoka, Nigeria
About: According to Ogundeko, if mechanical engineering were a part of speech, it would be a verb: “It is an action profession,” he said. Ogundeko goes on to add that the greatest oxymoron is an “idle mechanical engineer.” “There is never such thing as an idle mechanical engineer,” he said. “Whatever is vividly envisioned, ardently desired and enthusiastically acted upon will inevitably come to pass in mechanical engineering.” Ogundeko currently holds leadership positions in several engineering clubs and societies, including president, ASHRAE student branch; assistant secretary, Mechanical Engineering Students’ Association; and even plays for the Mechanical Engineering football (soccer) team.

About the Program

In 2003, ASHRAE created the very successful New Faces of Engineering program aimed at young engineers under the age of 35. New Faces: College Edition is ASHRAE’s legacy project for 2011 as the chairing society of Engineers Week.

The program recognizes outstanding junior or senior (defined as third, fourth or fifth year) ASHRAE members enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Engineering program from an ABET Accredited school who are proving themselves to be leaders in the field of engineering.

ASHRAE’s New Face of Engineering is recognized in a full-page ad in the ASHRAE Journal and has their profile featured on the New Faces of Engineering: College Edition's Facebook page. ASHRAE also awards a $1000 scholarship to the winner.

Application will open Sept. 6 of each year and close Oct. 20. Applicants must “like” the New Faces of Engineering: College Edition Facebook page in order to apply.
